Internal Medicine Specialist – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

SUMMARY:

Ummat International Hospital (UIH) is seeking a qualified, experienced, and committed Internal Medicine Specialist to join its Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The selected specialist will be responsible for the clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, continuous monitoring, and management of critically ill and life-threatening medical patients. The specialist will work closely with the multidisciplinary ICU team to provide safe, timely, evidence-based, and patient-centered care.

Description

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill and life-threatening patients in the ICU.
  • Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs, neurological status, respiratory condition, hemodynamic status, and other critical clinical parameters.
  • Manage shock, sepsis, severe infections, acute respiratory distress, acute kidney injury/failure, cardiac conditions, and other critical medical conditions.
  • Assess patients’ respiratory status and participate in the management of oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation, and invasive mechanical ventilation when required.
  • Provide professional support in ventilator management, including appropriate monitoring of ventilator settings and patients’ respiratory status.
  • Analyze laboratory, radiological, and other diagnostic findings and incorporate them into clinical decision-making.
  • Develop and implement appropriate evidence-based diagnostic and treatment plans for critically ill patients.
  • Appropriately manage medications, intravenous fluids, electrolytes, and other required medical interventions.
  • Make timely and appropriate clinical decisions when a patient’s condition deteriorates.
  • Participate in and, when appropriate, assist in leading resuscitation and other emergency medical interventions.
  • Make appropriate clinical decisions regarding patient admission, transfer, discharge, and transfer from the ICU to other hospital departments.
  • Coordinate effectively with Surgery, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, Emergency, and other relevant specialists.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of patients’ medical records, diagnoses, treatments, progress, and significant clinical events.
  • Provide professional clinical guidance and coordinate with ICU nurses and other healthcare staff regarding patient management.
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety, medical confidentiality, medical ethics, and hospital professional standards.
  • Follow and support the implementation of ICU infection prevention and control practices.
  • Comply with ICU protocols, clinical guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Valid postgraduate specialization in Internal Medicine.
  • Valid professional license/registration from the relevant health authorities.
  • Relevant professional experience in the management of critically ill and acute medical patients.
  • Previous experience in an ICU, CCU, or similar critical care setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of acute and life-threatening medical conditions.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, shock, and sepsis management.
  • Ability to continuously monitor critically ill patients and make timely clinical decisions in response to changes in their condition.
  • Good knowledge of emergency medical care and resuscitation principles.
  • Ability to maintain accurate medical records and clinical reports.
  • Strong teamwork and coordination skills with multidisciplinary medical teams.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex and critical clinical situations.
